While Risk is a great game, it suffers from the following issues.

  • Player elimination.

  • “Lame duck” players.

  • Long turns.

  • Long play time.

.

To address these issues, I created a variant of Risk with the following major changes.

  • Shorter play game. Based on playtesting, this game will take 30 to 90 minutes.

  • A player wins by getting the most victory points after a fixed number of turns.

  • No player elimination.

  • Combat does not involve dice.

  • Players only get troops from the number of territories controlled. They do not get bonus troops from cards or continents.

Below is an image of the custom board I made for the game. However, Clash of Empires is compatible with the standard Risk board.

    What are your thoughts?

Interesting ideas Gulu on Risk variation. Must give it a try to see how it plays out. I like the simplicity of the rules while going through each round. Wondering how it would feel if suddenly the game finishes in 30 rounds. Personally I always dislike games when I feel I had a chance to win but the game finished too soon, almost artificially. I understand that you are trying to keep all players in the game and also shorten the game, but may be find a finishing state that is less arbitrary than only 30 rounds. A player at the end may think that that he could have won if there were 35 rounds not accepting his defeat.

Just some thoughts. I am curious, if you play tested it, how did other players feel about the game?
