Hi all :)

I recently started playing risk after long time and, while reading rules, misinterpreted rule about attacking on another teritory. For example:

attacking land have 4 units, defending have 1 unit. Attacker wants to move only 1 army on enemy teritory, so, he's attacking with ALL dices (no matter how many armies he want's to move). example: he wants to move 1 unit, he attacks with 3 dices against one, and move 1 army after winning.

Well, what do you think about keeping this rule? If there's rule to move units (after one's turn) from one to another CONNECTED teritory, then this house rule can be also used... Do you think that game RISK, with this rule, isn't the game that it's supposed to be?

If not, i'll try to convice others to return to old rule (moving armys depending on how many dices one rolls, and, after one's turn, moving armies to NEIGHBOUR territory (not CONNECTED territory))

Welcome to TD, Ogisha. The question you asked is slightly puzzling because it is not really the normal rule. Let me explain what people usually do, so you can compare yours.

You don't have to move armies after every single attach. You simply have a set of armies in one territory attacking another. You must have more army than the number of dice you throw. It is your choice to decide how many to throw. This rule applies to the attacker. As for defender, you can only throw dice as many as you have armies.

Example 1: You have 6 armies and the defender has 2. You can throw 3 and the defender can throw 2. You may lose a maximum of 2 armies. You can then carry on attacking until you cannot or you win or you decide to stop.

Example 2: You have 3 armies and the defender has 1. You can throw a maximum of 2 dice and the defender can throw only 1. In this case the chances of winning are better for the defender so it is riskier from the attacker's side.

Example 3: You have 2 armies and the defender 1. You can throw only one dice against one dice. Very risky.

If you win you simply divide your armies between the two territories. You can only attack and move to neighbouring territories.

It is only your free move at the end of the turn after you have done all your attacks that can be to connected territories, not while you are attacking. Even this rule is not sometimes present depending on local rules and you can only move to neighbours. In general the game is much better and more strategic when you have the free move to connected territories at the end of your turn.

Good luck with your games

Thanks for response Ehsan, i see now that i wasn't clear above. I know about basic rules for attacking, but don't know about moving armies after battle.

Here is the part from the official 2003 rules from Hasbro:
"You win the invasion when you defeat the last defending unit from a territory. You have now conquered this territory. Take the units used to win the battle and move them from the battleground into the territory you invaded. You may now move any additional units..."

So for example, attacking territory have 10 armies and defender didn't took my single unit from there. I attacked with 3 armies and won (rolling 3 dices). According to rules, i have to move at least 3 armies on conquered territory or more (because, i killed last enemy unit with my 3 armies). But, my question above was about moving as many units as I wish (not having this bottom line for # of armies), for example, i want to move only 1 army there, using all dices in last attack, because i have 4+ armies.

(according to rules, i have to roll:

1 dice for moving at least 1 army or more

2 dices for moving at least 2 armies or more

3 dices for moving at least 3 armies or more)

In short, i want to roll 3 dices (on territory with 4+ armies) and move 1 or more after win (not 3 or more) :)

According to your answer: "If you win you simply divide your armies between the two territories.", it seems that you're also using this rule so, it's all i wanted to know :)

Ogisha, I now understand your question.

Indeed we never play with the strict rule you mentioned because it is very limiting. Online Risk games are also the same. Once you win you can simply divide your armies between the two territories so long as you have a minimum of one in each of them. After that it is totally up to you. Not having this flexibility can easily impact the strategy in the game and potentially reduce the fun. It would also make execution more complicated for no benefit.

Hope this answers your question.
