first to get 50 armies wins. I find it fun, as u need to make stragetic and sometimes brain crunching decision on whether to attack opponents to lower their count, just sit and gain men, or go for a continent to get the bonus, but knowing you will lose armies. When the person thinks they have near 50, they call it and they are penalized 10 armies if they werent actually at 50. It can take forever sometimes and sometimes be quick

Amusing variation. Makes me wonder how the game progresses over time. Does it mean that players start to fight with each other continuously for no reason. How long does a typical game take. I guess you can control that by controlling the 'limit'. Like to give it a try .... Will let you know. The Player

i dont understand the part where you think you have 50? couldn't you just count in your head to see if you were right? im going to try this variation out, though, it sounds cool!

Does it have to be exactly 50 armies or is it 50 or more?

Interesting idea, something my friends and I haven't thought of. I think the count part is to make sure people keep track in their head, and if they aren't sure they get whammied, which I like, it keeps people honest. This variation makes the cards supremely important, and really makes you want to wait to get cards later in the game. Just as the original post said, you have some serious decisions to make and must weigh the trade-offs.

50 armies is easy. You already start with 35( iassume youre playing 3 player) so the first player has a high chance of winning. How about 100 or even 180?

50 armies does sound like an easy total to get to depending on how many people are playing. I think this version is supposed to be quicker, but I think changing the number of armies you need to reach depending on the number of players and how long you want to play is okay. I am wondering how many players played in a typical game by the original author of this thread and how long did games tend to last?  Did you ever fluctuate the number you needed to reach?

Even more interesting, what are some of the core strategies you utilized in this type of game and which ones worked and which ones didn't?  Why do you think they did or did not work?
