Hey,

I had just bought Risk Godstorm and played it first time and totally got my ass handed to me by my ill-experienced non-game playing gf... Well, I feel pretty beat up.

What happened was that I didn't read up enough to know that if you have an army in a continent that all other teritories have opposing armies, you may want to consider denying usage of that territory.

So I went first, almost took over a continent, then my gf went. She immediately took over a continent (in this case Atlantis), and then reinforced Gual (which is France I guess).

Then, next turn comes, and I have no "faith" tokens left, and she puts one in the box and goes YET AGAIN. She takes her 8 some armies and takes over all my guys upwards through Germania and all I'm left with is a few guys in Norway.

My turn FINALLY fucking comes - I get a measy 3 new armies, and I attack 7 armies & war god against 4 armies & a death/war god. Well, my god dies first off. Then all 7 of my armies get mauled and she still has the entire 4 left. All I have left on the board is territories with 1 guy.

Well, needless to say, I forfeited by throwing the board on the floor, and then immediately going into my corner for a while until she went to bed then have been reading strategy guides all night long.

So, several questions maybe some of you experts can help me with...

First, WTH is the deal with bidding for turns? Is this, in your opinion, a way of "spicin up the playing field", or, like I think, is it just a tad --------?

Also, this "plague" marker (and in 2101AD the WASTELAND marker), are they also to "spicin up the playing field", or are they -------- too?

Any ideas as to maybe what I should have done to start off with, like maybe not be so stupid to lose a continent? Or is my gf some sort of risk savant, not knowing her super playing abilities?

(jeez I'd like to take her on a match of CS or BF1942 after this)

Thanks for any responses!
JB

That's the right way to lose, you got that part right, at least. It's how I always go when I'm down to a few territories and no cards.

It sounds like just inexperience and little knowledge of the game is what cost you that one.

Good grief. If anyone did that to me I'd never play Risk with them again. Supposing everyone did that, no one would ever get the satisfaction of victory and every game would end with us picking pieces up off the floor. Fun fun fun. Hope the girlfriend is more understanding than I am and you get to play again.

not much you could do there, the game is really bad with 2 people. get some more players and you can see how fun this game will become.

Hmmm.  Sometimes it just doesn't go your way . . . DEAL.
