I would love to see scenarios in which we look at the initial phase of the game: The placing of armies to claim territories and then the placing of armies to reinforce those territories before th first player gets to attack.

The scenarios should be both empty or near empty maps, maps partially filled in and those filled in, but still need reinforcements.  You can even do a bunch of mini-scenarios in a, "What would be your next move," kind of vain and allow people to answer them live or through the forum.

I mentioned this on an earlier thread for having the ability to create and post your own scenarios.  Having this feature in that program would add to its versatility.

I think this will be covered by the scenario editor, so yes, it has to be flexible enough so that a user can design a game at for any desired stage. Made a note of this.

Your new scenario/map editor is a great tool and it has the flexibility built in that is needed for these intial phase scenarios. We can even do it for any phase of the game, the middle and end games as well as the opening moves.

However, I have yet to see any such scenarios on the website. Perhaps a way to increase participation on your website would be to include chess-like examples and scenarios. Give us a few "quizzes" on how to set up your game after some introduction to basic tactics on these specific ideas. Then move on to games that we can play, you give us the intial set-up and we are to respond with our moves. You can then take the responses and essentially play the game through the use of die rolls and standard tactics or even show several branches, this is how it would end up if you used strategy A and that is how it would end up if you use strategy B, but here is how it really ended up . . . and then you can plot the moves out on a day by day basis and eventually get to the end, and then summarize what happened. Something like that would rock, hopefully increase the participation rate and seem more like you are playing a game on the website while also involved in discussions.

Perhaps there should be a section devoted to user-made scenarios so they don't get lost in the shuffle. You have a dedicated section of your website for your scenarios, perhaps the user section can be amalgamated to that?

On example and scenarios: your idea is certainly interesting and I have been thinking about it. It needs to be well-thought out since it relies on user-submitted content, it has to be flexible and capable of producing high-quality material.

On dedicated section for scenarios: Currently the place for it is the forums. You are welcome to produce your scenarios (as you have done) and submit them to the forum where other members can reply with various moves. Once there is enough submitted scenarios, I can put them in a dedicated section so that it stays tidy. Meanwhile, just keep submitting scenarios, because everyone's point of view is different and it shows how many different ways Risk can be played.

Sounds good. I will work on some ideas about the initial pahse scenarios and try to flesh them out. It seems you have a new "Test" area, which looks interesting. You have a scenario map followed by responses. This looks similar to my ideas, are you testing that out with someone? Should we reply to the maps? They look cool. Thanks

Grant, you can use Test area to experiment with sending posts whether they include maps or not. Just for experimentation really. The maps there are just tests. Of course once your scenarios are ready, you need to post them to the main forum.

Gotcha. Wasn't really sure but it makes sense. I tend to post my maps in the main forum and just edit them if I need to, it seems to work so is that an okay way to handle it or does the Test area make more sense? Just curious.

Your maps posted to forums are just fine, so unless new changes are introduced you dont really need the test area. It's there in case it is needed.
