OK guys first off I have to say that this is a great site I have been using for a while but just recently registered to. Well today is new years and I'm going to a Risk game at my friends. I am 15 and so is my friend but we play with his brother and a few of his friends. Obviously that leads them to be very confident. They are also very good risk players I always end up being around 3rd and would like to be 1st for once any thing you guys can suggest would be highly appreciated!

Well we played the new faster version with the objcectives. Well I took your advice and I got an army in Australia so I put about half my armies there. I also had several armies in Africa and noone had contested me in Australia so i put my remaining armies in Africa .

We started playing and as usual Kyle (the best player I know) took South America right off the bat he also made central America his capital. Then next another friend took Europe. I took Australia then about half of Africa then tacticaled back to North Africa. Then the other guy who has played twice made Middle East his capital and wanted to take Asia.

Next round Kyle took his beloved North America. My other friend took the rest of Europe and I conqured the new guys capital and made my first critical mistake I also took siam but didnt bother to tactical my guys from Indonesia up to siam leaving my forces split. Next round Kyle forced the player controlling Europe out of Ice Land and left all his guys there. I took most of Africa the other two basically did nothing other than fortify and take a country for a card.

Anyways it ended up me and Kyle and he won with a relitivley small force because I neglected to move soldiers together and they were defeated so I lost my continent and my capital and Kyle won.

If I could have taken Africa to it would have helped. But I still doubt I could have won because he owned both NA and SA. The main problem is him and myself are always far apart and I can never wage effective war against him because of it and noone else has the guts to. I asked him why he always goes for me first and he said because I'm his greatest threat.

He is a great player because he gets in my head. I try to ignore it but I can't he knows me too well. Like he can predict my moves and mess me up before I can do anything then when I change my playing style he just does the same and it makes me go insane.

Although I will say this when I get to play against people that dont know me well I'm gonna do good think. Because of all the crap I deal with from playing him all the time. Also Mr. Honary I purchased the book and I cant wait for it to get here.

That's a good game,Bruce.You learned how to place and manuever your troops strategically.Your decision of staying at North Africa and Australia is so wise,let you gain two footholds at the world.In fact,if you can launch the mortal strike to your toughest rival Kyle in the critical moment,then victory is surely yours!

Indeed,Kyle is really one of the best player.He can depend on the other player's "ability" to make the decision,only few players can do it.Something I don't understand is why don't he "co-operate" with you instead,because the good players can always gather the powerful and effective alliance,and more likely learn the importance of diplomacy.

In that game,I contest with jordanj in the last stage.jordanj had the undisputedly overwhelming advantage in number and terrtories,and even more concentrated.But he missed a good chance to strike me decisively,and even divided his troops for guarding more terrtories.I took advantage of his fatal mistake,concentrated my force as I can.And then I launched the shattering assault to his terrtories,decisively weakened him.At last he was cornered and defeated by me after a series of excited battles.

Even though jordanj ever ruined my single corp in several battles,even sacking my homebase(Indeed,it's too late since I have already shakened his power base).His tactical victory couldn't damage my power a lot.That's why I could defeat him at last.

It displayed one unchanged rule : Concentrated force is always stronger than divided force.Just like the above examples of ours. 

In my view,the real strategist not only learn the manuever of troops,but also exploit the diplomacy,"deception"(about covering your strategic intention) and "charateristic focus"(according different player's trend and ability to make the decision).One more important is "calculation".Much calculation,more victories!
